Exhibition at Kunsthaus Zürich to celebrate the work of Paul Cézanne |

Kunsthaus Zürich is celebrating the work of the French painter Paul Cézanne (1839–1906) in an exhibition that will run until 11 February 2007. Comprising thirty works in total, this ‘Homage to Cézanne’ contains rarely seen watercolours as well as drawings and paintings owned by the Kunsthaus and from private collections. To mark the centenary of Cézanne’s death, this exhibition highlights the main themes and modes of expression developed by the Father of Modernism during the course of his long artistic career. In its Picture Ballot! series Kunsthaus Zürich shows ‘Frozen Moments. From Vallotton to Hubbard/Birchler’. |

Until 11 February 2007, in the latest of its Picture Ballot! exhibitions, Kunsthaus Zürich turns the spotlight on the motif of the introverted woman in painting and photography. In spring, the Members of the Zürcher Kunstgesellschaft overwhelmingly voted for the photograph ‘Stripping’ (1998) by Teresa Hubbard/Alexander Birchler. Guest-curator Linda Schädler has discovered analogies to this piece in works by Félix Vallotton, Edvard Munch, Mario Sironi and Niklaus Stoecklin, putting them together with Hubbard/Birchler in a cabinet exhibition. Since 1999, the artist Rita McBride and the Mai 36 and Annemarie Verna galleries have enjoyed a close and unusual connection. The intensive collaboration, evidenced by an initial presentation in both galleries and four alternating solo exhibitions, shows itself to be a long-term project that aims to do justice to the multifaceted nature of her work and its exceptional wealth of allusions and references. Rita McBride's oeuvre unfolds as the fruitful result of many confounding interpretations and readings. Continue ... |

The Fabian & Claude Walter Galerie, Zurich, is holding a solo exhibition of Swiss photographer Balthasar Burkhard (b. 1944, Berne). In addition to photographs from the "Cities" (1999) and "Deserts" (2000) series, works from the series entitled "Bamboo" and "Falcon" from the early 1990s are shown in the exhibition.
